Description

OH MAN did I crap out by the end of this or what WHOOPS. Oh well, here he is. Him and his stupid cute face.

Also the coding is being STUPID but I don't know how to fix it so I'll just let it be for now I suppose.

~~~
Name: Daniel “Dog” Rowe
Age: 14 (Birthday is in May)
Gender: Male
Height: 5’6” (slouches and loses an inch appearance-wise)
Sexuality: “unsure” Desperately trying to convince himself he likes girls.
Likes/Dislikes:
:bulletwhite: Chess (can you tell?)
:bulletwhite: Reading
:bulletwhite: The rain
:bulletwhite: Quiet places in general
:bulletwhite: Animals. They don’t judge. He’s especially fond of the furry pets compared to the scaly or slimy ones.
:bulletblack: People in general terrify him.
:bulletblack: Feeling cornered, physically or verbally
:bulletblack: Being touched, especially by people he doesn’t know well
:bulletblack: Being mocked, bullied, teased, etc.
:bulletblack: Loud noises (likes the rain, hates the thunder)
Personality: Daniel is probably the biggest coward you’ve ever met in your life. When placed in a dangerous situation, or even just a situation he THINKS is dangerous, his first reaction will always be to try and run away. If he can’t, then he’ll attempt to defend himself, but it’s… pathetic at best when he tries. Overall, he’s too scared to be a good guy, but too scared to be a bad guy as well. He’s just scared. Be warned, though, this fear WILL be set aside when he’s pushed too far and will be replaced with bravery once in a blue moon. It takes a LOT to make this happen though.
His fear of people isn’t as misplaced as some would think, and due to past experiences he’s also become highly untrusting. He takes kindness as a sign of someone trying to get his trust instead of just someone trying to be kind, and trying to earn trust is never a good thing in his eyes (trust is earned over time through unconscious actions, not attempted to gain). It’s very hard for him to tell when someone’s being genuine or not, and as such he finds it safer to assume everyone’s out to get him.
If you can get passed his trust issues, and keep him around long enough to have a conversation with him, you’ll find a very awkward yet sweet little boy that really just wants some friends in his life. The problem is that he won’t let himself have friends, either due to his crippling low self esteem or reasons he deems worthy but aren’t really good enough (an example would be “I don’t want them to get bullied too”).
Background:
Daniel knows very little about his biological parents, other than that they kept him for a while before he was eventually dropped off at the orphanage, and that he was named after his father, or his father’s father, he doesn’t really know which. His deformities kept him from being adopted, since most couples looking to adopt try and get “perfect” babies if they can, and Daniel was quite the opposite. He was an unruly child who would cry often and couldn’t do man of the things other babies could because of his hands. The orphanage, not used to having children with his sort of handicap, did what they could to support him and help him reach childhood, but couldn’t make his life as easy as one with knowledge in the subject would have been able to.
Childhood was torture for the boy, having to be stuck between being ostracized at school or teased at the orphanage. It’s hard to tell if his stutter showed up at this time or not, but he found himself unable to even try to talk to people, let alone try to make friends. This continued on well into his years, until he was twelve. It was then that he met on of the bellingham teachers and his anthropologist wife who were interested in adopting an older child. They had a child of their own already, but were interested in adopting more, and wanted to do a kindness and try adopting a child that most others wouldn’t.
Daniel was a perfect candidate in their eyes. He showed incredible promise through his grades, and was more than polite and friendly to them during their talks. It took a couple weeks, but Daniel managed to get adopted and left the orphanage to live in his new house, with his new last name and what he hoped to be a new life.
The first thing he realized during his time with the new family was that he really couldn’t count on having a mother; since the wife was an anthropologist, she tended to leave for weeks and sometimes months at a time. Despite having lived in this new household for two years, he knows hardly anything about her, and has maybe spent a month’s worth of actual time with her. She was sweet, and nice, but never there. His new father was practically the same; between correcting papers and tests, staying late at Bellingham to do teacher things, he felt like the only time he could really see Mr. Rowe was when it was dinner time or when he asked for help with homework. He did, however, grow to love his new little sister very quickly. It took a lot of convincing from his new father to join Bellingham’s chess club instead of ditching after school activities to spend more time with her.
This new life was better than the one he was used to before, with a new school and a new shot at life once he started up his first year at Bellingham, but it didn’t last for very long and the bullying started up within weeks. It was after a particularly bad day of bullying that Daniel came home and lied down in his closet to think. His new father was trying to help, he was, but Daniel determined that help was impossible. He would be treated this way his whole life, as long as he lived. Was… was it worth it?
That was when he heard cat scratchings on the other side of the closet door, despite the Rowe’s not owning a cat...
Other:
:bulletblack: If your character thinks they’ve heard bad stuttering in the past, they’ll be blown away by Daniel. His stuttering is ATROCIOUS. Oddly enough, it goes away when he’s overly panicked. Expect it to take a long time for him to get across what he’s trying to say, or for him to have to restart the sentence every now and then.
:bulletwhite: Though he’s been living with his adopted family for some time now, he doesn’t feel he’s made much of a bond with either of his “parents”. He still calls them Sir and Ma’am, and doesn’t feel much of a connection with either of them. This doesn’t mean he’s ungrateful in the slightest; he just doesn’t know how to get close to either of them.
:bulletblack: His “little sister” is an exception to the above. In fact, she’s the sole reason he made his wish, because he couldn’t stand thinking of how she would have reacted if he did anything drastic, or how his self hatred would affect her in the long run.
:bulletwhite: He will never shake hands with people, and will actually try his hardest to keep his hands in his pockets for as long as possible if someone doesn’t know about them. Even if he DOES know about them he might be inclined to keep his hands hidden, since, well, they’re disgusting and gross people out.
:bulletblack: Daniel is semi-ambidextrous after so many years of trying to figure out which hand is more useful overall. He can write with both hands, and will use either hand as the dominant one while using his bow. He might settle on one or the other eventually, but he doesn’t know which would be better yet.
:bulletwhite: He doesn’t know what Professor Rowe was thinking when he hired Calliope to babysit his little sister (His first thought was that he thought Daniel wasn’t doing a good enough job of watching his own sister), but he’s hoping he’ll get used to the girl in time and maybe make a friend or something, especially since his sister seemed to take such an instant liking to the ginger. He has no idea she’s a magi.
:bulletblack: He always has a black eye or bruise or scrape of some sort on his face. It’s become such a staple to his appearance that he didn’t know what his face would look like without them until he became a magi and found out about the slightly faster healing that every magi has.
:bulletwhite: If he actually likes someone, as in a true friend or in a more romantic way, he’ll actually be more inclined to avoid them. Not like he doesn’t avoid people in general, but the fear of finding out those feelings aren’t reciprocated would crush him. It’s better to try and let those feeling go away than to find out they don’t feel the same way about a friendship or more.
:bulletblack: He is the BIGGEST fan of Disturbed. Yeah, go figure. He loves listening to their songs (usually with headphones on) and mouthing the words and playing air guitar or air drums, especially while cleaning his room. There’s a dork hidden under all that awkward.
:bulletwhite: He got the nickname “Dog” from his crying, which sounds like puppy whimpers. It’s adorable but heart breaking at the same time. He would also prefer to be called Dog over Danny; he hates Danny as a name and will always correct people into calling him Daniel if they aren’t already calling him Dog.
School: Bellingham
Grade: Freshman (9)
Wish: “I-I-I… I wi-wi-wish I d-di-di-di-did-didn’t HATE m-m-my-myse-se-self s-so m-mu-muh-much..”
Soul Gem:
:bulletwhite:While in Egg form it has a black casing with a white gem. It sort of looks like a King chess piece.
:bulletblack: In its inactive form, it takes the form of a “dog” tag (like the military ID tags). He keeps it tucked under every layer of clothing he’s wearing at the time.
:bulletred: When he's in Magi Form, his soul gem can be found on the back of his left hand (shown above)
Weapon: Daniel uses a bow that vaguely resembles a horse, based on the Knight chess piece. There are two types of arrows; white arrows, which are for support, and black arrows, which are his attacking ones. There aren’t any differences other than color. The heads of the arrows have the bishop piece’s notch and general curved shape.
Innate Ability: He’s gotten the ever so slightest amount of a confidence boost in his lack of hatred for himself. He still “hates” parts of himself, but he doesn’t hate himself as a whole.
Attacks
2D5 attack: Fianchetto - Daniel aims one of his white arrows at an ally and fires it. The arrow explodes just prior to impact and covers the ally in a mist of healing powder.
D10 attack: J’Adoube - Daniel takes a turn to stop hyperventilating and calm himself, raising his accuracy by +1 for the remainder of the battle.
D15 attack: Castling - Aiming a large white arrow into the air above himself or the target, a circle of Rook-styled walls falls around the target as a barrier.
D20 attack: Blitzing - Daniel fires black arrows in rapid succession at the opponent. There can be anywhere from two to five shot off all at once, depending on Daniel’s determination to hit the opponent. In general, if one hits, they’ll all hit (or you can say your character just got hit by one in a more vital spot depending on how you want them being hit by this move).
5D6: “CHECKMATE!” - A large ring of chess pieces surround the opponent to keep them in place. Daniel’s bow grows in length until it’s the size of a usual  longbow, and he draws the string back, creating a large black arrow with a crown for the head. He aims for the King Piece in the ring, and the King explodes, setting off a chain reaction where every other piece explodes in turn. The easiest way to dodge this is to get out of the chess piece circle before Daniel can fire his arrow.
