Description

Aaahahaha how do you shade hair :iconminghideplz: I at least managed to shade everything else so I'm pretty content with it.

That being said, this is for :icond-a-m-m-e-d:

~~~
I would like to be partnered with Aquaria-Moon
Name: Alanis Hartley
Age/DoB: 22 / June 27th, 1993
Sex: Female
Height / Weight: 5'8"/ 134 lbs (very lanky)
Element: Water
Partner: Eiln Tempell
Personality:
:bulletgreen: "Good" -  For lack of a better description, she's a very good person. Her moral standings are in the right place, she has a very kind disposition, and she's incredibly polite.
:bulletgreen: Outgoing - Alanis has never had trouble with talking to strangers and meeting new people. She understands to be gentle when approaching those who look shy, and at least tries to keep from talking to people who would rather be left alone, but if someone looks like they could use some company she'll be more than willing to say hello.
:bulletgreen: Loyal - Doggedly so. She will do her best to never let a friend down, always stand by their side through thick and thin, and will do whatever she can to help them.
:bulletgreen: Patient -  Alanis isn't the sort to get upset or flustered if things don't go well the first time. She's a determined person, and can be heard mumbling "If at first you don't succeed..." to herself when learning something new. She's also very patient with others.
:bulletwhite: Curious -  She's a highly curious person. This is part of the reason she's here to begin with. If there's something she's never done before, or a place she's never explored, food she's never tried, she'll make sure that's remedied. This often gets her in trouble, or in sticky situations, but has led to some amazing stories as well. Not necessarily good or bad, but can swing either way.
:bulletred: Naive - Looks often deceive Alanis, and to top it off she has this belief that everybody's inherently good somewhere inside. Going along with the trusting trait, this often leads to her being used, or misguided. She's a pretty easy target for sleezy people.
:bulletred: Emotional - She tends to wear her heart on her sleeve. If she's sad, it's hard for her to hide it. If she's angry, it shows. On the flip side, her happiness can be contatious, and it's not really that hard to tell when she's smitten with something. This isn't to say that her emotions sway easily, she just has a hard time hiding them. That being said, she's usually a ray of sunshine. There are times where things will get her down, though, and when they do, it's usually pretty bad.
:bulletred: Courageous to a fault - She's got a bit of an iron will, and the thrill of adventure often outweighs the fears that come with it. Some would call her brave for what she's done and attempted before, others would call her stupid. She can be scared, but she won't let it stop her from doing something if it needs to be done. This tends to disappear if she's scared or greatly overpowered, but even this might change when she's bonded.
:bulletred: Self-Sacrificing - Some would say she's a martyr at heart. If there's any sign of danger, she'll willingly throw herself into the line of fire to ensure others don't have to.
Abilities: Is an excellent swimmer; knows how to swim fast and for long periods of time. Pretty good stamina overall, and fast on her feet when she needs to be.
Background:
    If you were to ask her, Alanis would say that she led a rather ordinary life.
    She was a rambunctious tomboy of a child who hardly ever played with the girls her age, preferring instead to run around in the mud and climb trees with the boys. There was a period of time where she thought that maybe she was really a boy after all, because she didn't like playing with dolls or wearing dresses, couldn't stand having long hair like the other girls, and would much rather play monsters than house. She grew out of this around middle school, partly because of hormones and partly because of a mixture of friends.
    It was around this time that she found an intense love for swimming and hiking. Her father would often take her out camping during the weekends, and there was a lake at their favorite camping spot that she learned to swim in. Her father believed her to be a natural swimmer, so much so that he would call her a "little fish" from time to time. They would spend days during the summer camping with the sky as their roof, huddled around a campfire. Looking back, she would say that this was the closest she ever felt to her dad, and was also some of the best times of her life.
    By the time she was a sophomore in high school she had become a rather pivotal part of the school's swim team and dance club. As much as she enjoyed these hobbies, she found herself feeling like she was wasting her life away compared to her friends. There had to be something more that she could do that would be useful, right? There were friends who were going to be doctors, teachers, politicians, and all she could do was swim and hike and move her feet in a pretty way. This lack of purpose followed her to graduation, and into college.
    It was there that she started to heard of a place where people could go to better themselves for the sake of humanity. She had spent as long as possible trying to find a subject she would want to major in, and had taken practically every general education class she could when she first heard about DEVIL. She didn't know a whole lot about it, only what friends had mentioned and what recruiters said in their brief interactions. All she initially knew was that it was a place where people went if they wanted to work with demons, that it was somewhere in Japan, and that it would help to better understand demons as well as document human/demon interactions. She became curious about the demons and the place itself, and the whole thing sounded like the golden ticket she had been looking for. What better to do with yourself than better humanity and understanding?
    It took her about a day of internal struggle to decide that she wanted to go.
    Her parents weren't happy with her choice, to say the least. Most parents wouldn't be fond of the thought of their child being used as a lab rat (though she insisted that wasn't the case), and had heard enough horror stories about demons that they adamantly refused to let her go. The arguing came to a climax, and she slipped off in the night while they were sleeping. She could only hope that her parents would accept and respect her decision in time, and that they wouldn't try to disown her when(or if) she ever came back.
Extra:
:bulletblue: She's been called Lani through a good chunk of her life, and wouldn't mind that nickname if one needed to be used.
:bulletblue: She hums a lot when she's alone, or stressed, or in a good mood... she just hums a lot. She sings too, but that's more rare.
:bulletblue: She teds to become uncomfortable around fire. It's not bad enough to be a phobia, but she does become uncomfortable.
:bulletblue: She was known by her friends as the "sweet" and "innocent" one. Expect a lot of sexual innuendos to fly over her head and for her to get flustered pretty dang quickly. On that topic, she's never really been in a relationship.
:bulletblue: She's got legs for daaaays. This, coupled with her above average height, makes her have a long stride when she walks or runs. Expect to jog a little if you're on the shorter side or have short legs and you walk with her.
:bulletblue: One life goal she's had is to get a tattoo, but she hasn't figured out what or where yet.
:bulletblue: Hartley, her last name, means "deer meadow;" she finds it amusing, seeing as her favorite animal is a deer.
:bulletblue: She tries very hard to be a vegetarian. There are instances where she might eat meat if she has to, or so she doesn't come off as rude, but she's always placed meat at the bottom of the food list. She's certainly not vegan though, and she can even accept eating eggs knowing that they weren't fertilized.
:bulletblue: She doesn't use contractions when she talks, which leads to her sounding rather formal. Most don't notice it.
RP Prompt:
Alanis hummed softly to herself as she watched the waves from her seat on the boat. Her arms were crossed on the railing, giving her chin a soft cushion to rest on. She payed little mind to the others traveling with her, partly because she was too mesmerized with the water and partly because she assumed she would be meeting them all later. Her thoughts wandered to the bits of information she could recall from the letters, the documents, her waivers. She thought about what it would be like to meet a demon, to work with one... her mind wandered for some time, and would have stayed lost if she hadn't heard a commotion from people noticing their destination nearing. A grin spread on her face as she ran a hand through her bangs, doing what she could to make herself look even mildly presentable. With her heart pounding in her chest, she eagerly awaited the docking of the boat, and her new life ahead of her.
I'm interested in rping! I have a rather busy schedule overall, but I'll rp when I can, usually through notes or skype or something of the sort. Just send a note if you're interested or try and catch me in the chats (though I won't be in the chats all that much)! I don't do script rp, sorry, it just feels awkward to me. On that note, I've been known to type pretty chunky paragraphs, so be prepared!
